How Starburst XXXtreme Multipliers Work
Every Starburst Wild that lands carries one of eight possible multiplier values: ×2, ×3, ×5, ×10, ×25, ×50, ×100, or ×150. The multiplier is rolled randomly per Wild. When two or three Wilds participate in the same payline win, their multiplier values add together rather than multiply. Three Wilds at the maximum ×150 each produce a combined ×450 chain on any payline win that runs through all three middle reels.
The Eight Multiplier Values
The full list reads ×2, ×3, ×5, ×10, ×25, ×50, ×100, ×150. NetEnt does not publish the exact frequency weights, but observation across thousands of recorded spins suggests low values (×2, ×3, ×5) appear roughly twice as often as mid values (×10, ×25), which appear roughly twice as often as high values (×50, ×100, ×150). Mean expected multiplier per Wild lands around ×20–25 once frequency weighting is applied — well below the simple arithmetic mean of ×43 the eight values would suggest.

How Multipliers Combine: The 450× Path
When more than one Wild participates in a winning combination, the multipliers add together. Two Wilds at ×50 produce ×100 on any payline that uses both reels. Two Wilds at ×100 and ×50 produce ×150. Three Wilds at ×150 each produce ×450 — the maximum combined multiplier in the game. This addition rule is what makes the 200,000× ceiling theoretically reachable: a base payline win of around 444× combined with a ×450 multiplier chain produces the documented cap. In practice, the probability of three ×150 multipliers landing on the same spin is roughly 1 in 512 conditional on three Wilds appearing together, which is itself rare.

Why This Replaces Pay-Both-Ways
The original 2012 Starburst paid wins from both directions on its 10 paylines — left-to-right and right-to-left — which roughly doubled the win frequency at the cost of low individual win sizes. XXXtreme drops one payline (10 to 9) and removes pay-both-ways, replacing both with the multiplier system. The math swap is intentional: the original's frequent small wins gave way to fewer wins multiplied by larger values. Net RTP barely moved (96.09% to 96.26%), but volatility shifted from low to high. A player accustomed to the original's pace will feel XXXtreme as a much colder slot until the first multiplier hit lands.
Multipliers and the XXXtreme Spins Toggle
The XXXtreme Spins toggle guarantees Wild symbols, but does not guarantee high multipliers. A Tier 1 spin at €1 base costs €10, places one guaranteed Wild, and rolls a multiplier on that Wild from the same eight-value distribution. If the rolled multiplier is ×2 or ×3 (the most common outcomes), the toggle returns far less than its 10× cost. If it lands ×100 or ×150 (the rare outcomes), the spin can return 50–500× the base bet. The toggle changes Wild frequency from random to guaranteed; it does not change the multiplier distribution that sits inside each Wild.
